Empty Nests Support Group
Empty nest syndrome is a general feeling of depression and loneliness that parents/other guardian relatives feel when one or more of their children leave home. Empty nest syndrome has become more prevalent in modern times, as the extended family is becoming less common than in past generations, and the elderly are left living by themselves.
I had the same experience when we dropped off my only child to his dorm last month. I was deeply saddened that I could not even describe how sad I was. I easily cried. I was surrounded with people but I still felt alone. One night, me and my husband were having our dinner and all of a sudden my tears flow. My husband saw me crying, he hugged me and he didn’t say anything and I appreciate that. My church prayed for me and I thank God that I’m not that sad anymore.
I’m here for you. Just cry whenever you miss them. God loves our kids more than we love them. I pray that we will both continue to trust Him, they are safe in Jesus’ hands and no weapon formed against them shall prosper. I pray also for peace and comfort as you keep going each day. Keep us posted. God bless.
I know it may be too soon, but since you seem to have a great "mothering" nature about yourself, have you contacted your local big sisters chapter? There are so many children who are growing up in unloving environments these days that maybe your can change a young person's live by sharing your love and provide them with some guidance.
