Empty Nests Support Group
Empty nest syndrome is a general feeling of depression and loneliness that parents/other guardian relatives feel when one or more of their children leave home. Empty nest syndrome has become more prevalent in modern times, as the extended family is becoming less common than in past generations, and the elderly are left living by themselves.
I understand how you feel because I’ve been there. When my only child left for college, I was so down and was deeply hurt. I should be thankful that he is able to go to college and his university is just one hour away from our house but I was so sad. I thought I was ready but it was hard for me to let him go. I cried a lot while I was praying and slowly experienced His peace. It didn’t happen overnight but it’s a process. Day after day, I slowly learned to move forward by the grace of God.
I pray that you will get through this loneliness. Stay in the forum. Online groups like this are very helpful. During that time that I was in need of someone to talk to, I posted in one of the online parent’s group and I was comforted after pouring my heart out to them. It was a huge help. I hope you will be encouraged here as well. God bless, keep us posted.
Are you available? You story sounds very similar to mine. My son moved out 3 days ago and I'm a mess. I'm having anxiety attacks, I'm not sleeping or eating, I can't concentrate on anything, I have no interest in doing anything. I need someone to talk to.
You went through this 2 months ago. How are you doing now?
