Empty Nests Support Group
Empty nest syndrome is a general feeling of depression and loneliness that parents/other guardian relatives feel when one or more of their children leave home. Empty nest syndrome has become more prevalent in modern times, as the extended family is becoming less common than in past generations, and the elderly are left living by themselves.
I don't know where everyone has gone but I am still here. What it seems like is people post and read the responses and then kind of go away. You can also read older posts and glean gems from some of those. I see this as a time of transition when our roles as mother or father change. If we have other new roles to fill the change, we may roll through this with excitement. If we only look back or see ourselves as losing this role as mother or father, then we may struggle emotionally with the change. And some families struggle with estrangements during this time which can be very difficult.
You say you are taking this way too hard. What does that mean for you? Sounds like you are at that first step or recognizing how life has changed and that can be a good thing for yourself. If you'd like to share some more, I am here and often check daily. What I find is this forum doesn't always pop up in my news feed. But maybe with this response, it will pop up more often.
