Empty Nests Support Group
Empty nest syndrome is a general feeling of depression and loneliness that parents/other guardian relatives feel when one or more of their children leave home. Empty nest syndrome has become more prevalent in modern times, as the extended family is becoming less common than in past generations, and the elderly are left living by themselves.
Your story is a little similar to mine.My 21 year old first went away to college 5 hours away.it was so painful.then 2 years later he decided to come home and go to local college.that was soo nice to have him home again....BUT......now he is planning on moving in October to get his own place and i'm really heartsick over this. Its harder than when he went to college because it feels more personal.
Really glad you got thru it and stay strong because yes, some day he will move.Enjoy the time while hes home...:)
I understand completely. It will feel more personal. In fact just yesterday he purchased some supplies for this semester and I asked why he hadn't come to me. He said, "because I'm grown up now and I don't need you to pay for everything anymore. You help me enough." Wow! That really set me back, but at the same time I felt very proud of him.
I will very much enjoy him being home for now understanding that it is short-lived.
You take care!
