I had another session on Wednesday morning and it was ok. I did notice however that the first few times I went out feeling some relief, but this time was different. It almost seems like I came out more stressed and anxious. Does it vary? I had a rougher than usual week, but I thought it odd this time.
Did you tell the therapist that you had a rougher than usual week?
I have experienced both relief and higher anxiety after my sessions. But have to say it always seems to make both highs and lows more intense. My last session was different in that I am struggling with so many issues and was so low that we did some strengthening of positives using EMDR. I felt better afterwards, but am once again really beaten and panicky. Overall, it helps w/ past tihngs, but I have put myself in a situation that I thought would be supportive but becoming destructive for me. This setback really stinks. It is difficult to have tried so hard, come so far, and to feel so the same.
I trust that you will find the anxiety only a moment and that it yeilds to the tools you have learned.
It is scary. I will have another session this coming week. It helped to have the positives strengthened and I don't think we would have done that if I hadn't said I was having strong issues. It's weird because I find w/ EMDR that it isn't always obvious that good things are happening. Like all the panic I am experiencing might actually be good and motivating toward progress on overcoming. I feel freed up to do things that I haven't had the energy or motivation to do. I think about what I need to do and become depressed. Well, I am depressed, but I am also motivated to do things that need to be done. So I don't know what's "good" and "bad." Only that progress is likely but no fun at all. Am overcome w/ the desire to isolated and it's hard to get out of the house right now. Can only hope and pray that this is a good but badly uncomfortable. ?!? Need to have patience to work this out and not let my mind get spinning, but I so want to spin.
Thanks Betty980,
I do see and feel progress as well. I just don't feel motivated much. I do what I have to do, to a minimum, but not to what I expect of myself. I want to get involved, enjoy my kids and life like I always have. I refuse to leave my kids aside so I do things with them. but almost feels like I am just going with the motions. You know what I mean? This is so new for me. I handled tihngs my way before, but I could go passed a bump, shake myself off and be done with it. Not that easy anymore. One bad feeling or comment towards me and I want to shut everything out. I don;t know how long I can keep myself from doing just that, but I pray and pray and I know God has me in His hands. Thanks for sharing. It helps to know I am not alone here.
You are absolutely NOT alone. Am glad to read that you feel there is some progress. I've had some really major ups & downs between sessions. Today I had a mtg w/ therapist, but didn't want to do any EMDR. We mostly talked and I asked a bunch of quesitons about things I have wondered about and she was very insightful, but I would have trouble listening attentively. Today and yesterday I have been motivated, but a few days last week it was hard just to be motivated enought to walk the dog. Forced myself to and, of course, I feel better when I exercise and eat right. Don't understand why I can't keep that part going because the benefits are obvjious and immediate. At any rate, I trust you will keep on keeping on and pray that God blesses you in some surprising and amazing way that brings you a new level of faith and strength
THanks Betty980,
Yesterday was my last session with my Dr, only 11 sessions allowed through the program I went through. He said he will call me and let me know because my insurance is just this month covering him, so hopefully I can go back to him. I feel so much better than I did this past April, but also realize this is just the beginning. EMDR is something I never imagined I would be doing. I never even heard of it before. I am going to be alright. My Dr even offered for me to call him at anytime I feel I can't take it and he will help me over the phone. That gave me some peace of my mind. I hope you stay motivated as well. Prayers to you and hope we can all move forward one bit at a time.
