Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome Support Group
Ehlers-Danlos syndrome is a group of rare genetic disorders caused by a defect in collagen synthesis. Depending on the individual mutation, the severity of the disease can vary from mild to life-threatening. Common symptoms are unstable, flexible joints with a tendency to dislocate and subluxate, and elastic, fragile, soft skin that easily forms welts and scars.
I have hypermobility EDS, along with degenerative scoliosis, DDD, Chiari 1 malformation, and too many diagnosis to name. Currently I have been having difficulty with the sensation that my medication is getting "stuck" around my larynx area.
I have had episodes (rare) of this in the past, usually if I turn my head mid-swallow or don't remember to drink a bit of water before, during and after swallowing meds. However those episodes were different sometimes the pills would feel like they made it farther down, and within an hour or so it would be better.
Now the sensation has lasted over 12 hours (not really painful) but definitely annoying and no matter what I eat or drink it still feels like the pills haven't moved.
No coughing or choking sensation. No difficulty breathing.
Just wondering if anyone else deals with this and if so do you have any helpful hints?

I also have hypermobile ty EDS and POTS.
I have recently had assessment for dysphagia and issues of feeling like there is a lump and things getting stuck etc. I have a small hiatal hernia but during a barium swallow they noticed a mild dismotility in my oesophagus. I also have reflux disease. I have to go for oesophageal ph testing and manometry test on 1st February to measure the degree of dismotility and also to test how bad the reflux is. I think perhaps the motility issue is what causes the sensations of food being stuck and the swallowing issues.
Also I think with EDS we are hypersensitive and feel things that others don't. For example when I have an upper GI endoscopy I know exactly where that scope is and whilst it isn't painful at the time I am left extremely sore for quite a number of days after the test.
I, like you can swallow a pill and feel it there for hours when in truth the pill has more than likely long since dissolved and my body is tricking me into believing it is still there due to hypersensitive nerves.
I hope this helps. I also hope that your EDS doesn't cause you too much difficulties elsewhere because I know full well how this affects us from top to toe in many aspects.
