Anyone know if TMJ surgery works on EDS III?

I have had TMJ for over two years and it is getting to the point where it is unbearable I have had a consult on surgery but it scares me because they say the will just take everything out and the jaw bone will just float with no tendons or ligaments. I am in the people business and one off the only tools I have is being able to talk. With out talking I can't make money... If anyone has had any success with this, was there a long recovery? The doc said could be a month to much longer. I have had other surgeries and know that my body doesn't respond well and healing takes much longer for me. If anyone has any info on the matter please let me know thanks!!!

It sounds like you are considering a more invasive procedure. Definitely seek at least a second opinion.

i have EDS and had serious jaw surgery when i was 17(now 21) the surgery was major but since i was very young my jaw was dislocating. basically as i got older it would dislocate and i couldnt put it back into place on my own. they had to grind down the bones, laser and shorten the ligaments and put the discs back into place. i still have a lot of cracking and pain but it was worth it, since it no longer dislocates. the best thing you could do is get a couple opinions.
