hey guys-as many of you know, last week was horrible for me. i relapsed, and binged and starved quite a bit. i won't go into what caused it as it is very personal. i'm trying to get out of it now and get back on track. still having a hard time eating, but i've been forcing myself to do so.
saturday we went to the mall and i was really terrified of bingeing for the third time in a week. i was really having a hard time. so i went to barnes and noble. i picked up the book "women, food, and god". i had heard a lot about it but wanted to check it out for myself.
by page three of the introduction, i was fighting back tears. as soon as i got home, i dove right in. much like with joyce meyer's books, i couldn't find a pen fast enough. i can tell god is going to use this book as a way to help me heal. while the author does not subscribe to any particular faith, she does believe in god. and geneen roth isn't some phsychologist with a medical specialty in eating disorders. she is simply a woman who has fought with herself and her own ED's long enough to know the pain and the unhealthy obsession with weight many women carry with them.
after gaining and losing 1,000 pounds, she began studying eating and how it relates to the bigger picture of life. she has worked with women for thirty years helping them change the way they interact and look at food. i stayed up all night reading. by sunday morning god allowed to see through the book that my eating disorder is my emotional and spiritual escape. thinking back, i can't believe i didn't see it before.
it makes complete sense. i couldn't run away from the bullies when they picked on me. i couldn't run away from the abuse or discrimination or the feeling that i was fat or just plain awkward. so i ate.
it still boggles my mind sometimes that god takes such good care of all of us. i mean HE'S GOD! he's king of the universe! and yet, he still does incredible little things for me like making sure i found the book this weekend and helping me deal with this part of my life. he's given me every poem i've ever written, every song i've ever sang, everything.......he just never ceases to amaze me! i love you, jesus! i'm sorry. i'm starting to ramble. i'm also starting to realize that i'm avoiding breakfast. so i'm going to go eat, or at least try to. bye!-fallon

I'm really glad that your faith and this book has helped you or inspired you to treat your body with care, and perhaps others with similar beliefs will be able to read this and reap the same benefits.

Thank you for letting us know about this book. I have heard it before on TV but didn't pay much attention. I think I will check it out. While I know what lies behind my ed I'm sure it still has to offer a lot and I am a believer too, so your post truly speaks to me.

Geneen Roth is phenomenal! Ive been reading her books Breaking Free from Compulsive Eating and When Food is Love since last Friday and they have already begun to change my life! Like you, I could NOT stop reading once I started. I cant believe these books have been on this planet for 25+ years and Im just NOW finding them. But, like you said, God must have had a purpose in mind for me. Perhaps if Id found them at another time in my life I wouldnt have been ready to accept its powerful message and be able to incorporate her strategies into my life. Im just so grateful and blessed that these books have come into my life now and I hope and pray that others will find the solace that I have. If you havent read anything by Geneen Roth go buy one now! Or do like I did and check out her books for free from your local library!! Youve got nothing to lose and your WHOLE LIFE to gain by reading her work!
