Ok, so I'm in the UK & it's totally diff over here so I dunno if anything I say will be useful but hey, something's better then nothing right?
Insurance- from what I hear u nd to be clear as to whether they will only pay for medical stabilisation or for u to get to a specific bmi or whether they pay for a time period or a certain amount of psychotherapy etc.
Treatment centres mostly hav Internet sites so google! Read what they say about their approach/treatment plans as they can differ significantly and some will suit u better than others. U need to kno what ur signing up to. Give them a call to discuss things in more detail.
The assessments here are all pretty standard. Physicals- height/weight etc. A DETAILED history of behaviours, psychological stuff like depression etc is also assessed.
I think it's more likely to be ur insurance that decides whether u get a place or not.

For me it always went like that. Got the go ahead from my doctor who put in a written referral. Called my insurance for places they approve. Checked them out on the internet. Once my referral went through I called them. The intake was over the phone since my closest IP was in a different state. They ask about your #s, behaviors, family history and once they say yes she does have an ed and they have a bed available you're in. It's really quick and easy and yes scary but I think you are making the right choice.

So what do I ask my insurance speficifcally?

I'm in a large city and there are several facilities to choose from, but for me the process was very demeaning and humiliating. I did not end up getting admitted because I was apparently not physically sick enough - not physically emaciated, suicidal, 65% of my body weight, losing my hair, etc. Apparently emotional pain doesn't count. The director said my insurance would not let me stay in there and it wouldn't do me any good - even after I had called my insurance and they said the facility was in network and I should be able to get in. I wanted to say to the director, look, you moron (who obviously did not have an ED) I may not LOOK a certain way but I'm hurting here and I need HELP, will you not help me?

I ended up in OP, which was of limited value. If I am not confined I will not stop the behaviors.

You tell your insurance your doctor referred you to IP and you need to know what facilities you can choose from. Tell them you need address and phone numbers. They shouldn't ask anything else since you are referred.

for me I called the insurance companies( i have two) found with one my primary covered first then second which of those they covered! and that was the easy part! Next I contacted the 1800 number they gave me. my intake was over the phone. they told me how long my insurance was covering my treatment and answered any other questions I had! hope I helped.
