At someone’s funeral, nobody says “she weighed xx pounds” or “she had amazing abs” lol. They talk about how kind and influential the person was, their impact on others, etc. Also, can you imagine yourself at 80 years old practicing anorexic behaviors in front of your grandchildren? “Grandma’s not eating with us again...” silly things like that make me rethink why my eating disorder tempts me so much in the first place.
And I know how difficult it is. You can’t just say “well I’m done with my eating disorder so I’m recovered now!” It’s an everyday choice. Some days are harder to make the right choice than others.
Also, we often romanticize what anorexia was like in our minds...I know I do. When I’m tempted to go back, all I’m thinking about is what I looked like vs what I look like now or how “amazing” that feeling of hunger was or even the number on the scale. When in reality...I looked and felt like shit, I was cold all the time, my body was basically shutting down, the constant feeling of hunger actually wasn’t amazing, and the only reason I cared about the scale was just for control. When in reality, that search for control made me basically insane everyday lol.
I know it can be soooo tempting, but keep fighting! Recovery is always an option, just like going back to you ED is always an option. Why not try recovery for a few months and if you don’t like it, you can always go back? :)
