You need meds to function. Left untreated the mood swings will get worse. You could end up attempting suicide because you didn't go on meds. You're literally risking your life here.
Meds saved my life. Without them I surely would have died because my mood swings were so severe.
You need meds. Don't delay going on them. If you are worried about weight gain then talk to yor doctor. But do not assume that all meds cause weight gain because you read horror stories about it.
Treatment needs to be together. Don't address one first do them together.
I'm gonna try meds during my long winter break so that if I have side affects it won't affect my school
I tend to take seroquel before bed, and as long as I fall asleep shortly after taking it (before the mad cravings kick in) then I'm good. The only way medication causes weight gain is 1) giving into cravings and 2) water intake. Liquid weight is nothing, since once you pee it's gone.
If meds do cause cravings remember that you are in control. There are ways to control them and not give in. For example you can eat healthy things that have sugar (most common craving in those who get it). Fruits like apples and bananas. Dried fruits like raisins. Asian pears if you can fins them are juicy and delicious. This way you train your body to crave healthy sugars. And it's not the end end of the world if you eat 3 apples! But like I said you can not even have cravings at all. The only cravings I get are related to PMS.
You ladies gave me great advice!! I will try:)
It is interesting because I just read a article on bipolar and eating disorders. It turns out that 14% of people with bipolar have an eating disorder. Binge eating being the most common, followed by bulimia, and lastly anorexia. So I find that interesting. Who knew, right?
