I find that when my anxiety mounts or even when frustration or anger come up I take 5, up to 10 deep breaths. I have been trying to do this more often and find myself much more relaxed. I've been focusing on how I get incredibly angry - bordering on road rage - when I drive. My heart can skip beats and my pulse increases to easily over 100. Yeah. I get just a bit over the edge. Point being I take deep breaths whenever someone cuts me off or I feel pressured to act on my anger by speeding up or whatever. I can't close my eyes obviously when I do deep breathing while driving but I have become much more calm when I drive by just doing this deep breathing. So if it works for my driving, I anticipate it will help for alot of other reasons. Try it, really, when you're feeling especially tense of when you have just looked in the mirror, find a calm/neutral place and just do some deep breathing. Focus on a visualization like a meadow, beach, whatever makes you happy, if you have time and place, and just breathe. If it takes 5 times, fine but if it takes 15 times or maybe even more that's fine to. So, give it a try.
Hopefully, you can overcome the inability to relax. That will lead to better things, and better ability to maintain a happy body. Plus, you'll have a better control on your state of mind.
