does anyone freak out when they here this word? i mean maybe it's just to us with ed's but this word always involves food! cake, alcohol, pizza, chicken wings, hot dogs, burgers, and ice cream are just some typical foods at parties...and usually it's hard to make it so that no one notices that u r not partaking in the eating....even at christmas with the whole cookie business!!!! i dont know but i even do not like my bday cuz i know im expected to have some cake...i think that my bday should be the day im excused from eating cuz its my bday!!! is there even a way to celebrate in which people with ed would not expect there to be any type of food present?

I hate parties. I don't go to them. My husband's family has alot of parties and get togethers. I drop him and my kids off and go shopping. If he insists on me going we leave before the food is served. When I am around his family when there is food his family watches everthing I do. They then later on call my husband to talk about how I didn't eat anything and how rude that is. They also talk to him about my weight. Knowing they are talking about me and watching me makes me want to be at their parties even less. When I have parties at my house for my daughters I only serve healthy food. I wish there was a way to celebrate without food being involved.

parties oh god this is excuse the phrase a puke waiting to happen. if i DO go it is only to hang w/ company and i drink to avoid food. so normally no one will bug me about this. otherwise,no way.

absolutely. and it's not just the fear of having to be around food, for me it is probably just as much to do with the fact that i have to be in a room or a place with tons of people (and i hate crowds) and feel out of place. and everytime i walk into a crowded room i always manage to see someone ridiculously thin and pretty and feel like i should turn around and go back home...

I always decide what I will and won't eat before going. It's the OCD I suppose. If people question it I just say I can't eat sugar. Which really, I can't it just makes me want more food resulting in a binging/purging session so I don't go there and if they don't like it, that's too bad.

I used to hate parties because I was always distracted by the food, trying to not eat it, then eating it, then purging and not knowing how the toilets flush....It was one big headache! Today because I am in recovery, I can actually be PRESENT and enjoy the people and the conversation instead of being obsessed with eating or not eating. I still don't eat desserts and my family gets me a yogurt ice cream cake for my birthday. Any other party, I usually offer to bring either a veggie platter or a fruit platter with me so I know I will have something healthy to snack on.

tell me about it a social gathering is like a spot to just pig out and for me i always think big hips all of a sudden in one day...i don't know why. Its stupid. I know we should just enjoy ourselves and have fun like the rest of people but we can't. Tryt maybe stayin' by the safe section so you don't feel guilty later.

it's okay to have a little, or you could just bring your own healthy dessert, because this forum is for progressing your health. Of course i could understand not eating any of it if it is unreasonably high in bad fats and sugar, but leaving a party for the fear of being around the food is a bit sad. Just bring your own and eat it. That is what I usually do, but most of my family and friends know that I'm a "healthy vegetarian" so that usually have tofudogs or vegetables for me to eat. This is just a suggestion.
