The idea of "will power" is, in my opinion, crazy. What you are going through has nothing to do with "will power". Whenever anyone told me I needed more will power the only thing I felt was alone, abandoned and judged.
Binge eating and trying to exercise enough to offset it is part of the ED. It doesn't matter if the cookies you buy are healthy or not you are still only supposed to have 2 of them and then stop. But the ED makes us eat the entire package and then go back to the kitchen to find the next food we can devour. It's a vicious cycle and no diet in the world will cure an ED.
I have learned through years of healing that ED's are coping mechanisms so we don't have to feel. At some point in our lives it became unsafe to express our emotions so we kept them inside. But not feeling is very hard to do so we find a way to cope. Some drink, take drugs and others develop an ED. Binge eating takes all those strong emotions and pushes them down so we don't have to feel them. I had to learn how to feel again. Then I had to learn what each feeling was and express them safely. This was not easy but it was worth it because now I express my emotions rather than eat them or starve them away. It's still a work in progress though as some emotions, such as anger, I still want don't want to feel or express. But I'm getting there and you can too. If you are not already working with a therapist I would urge you to do so.
Luckyempath thank you for your reply. Yes I resonate with this as it all started when I had something bad happen to me and had an unsupportive bf so I could t express and that's truthfully when I gained all the weight. I feel like I've tried to move past it and I now have a supportive bf but he's really all I have. Haven't thought about a therapist because I don't trust people, that's why I'm on the internet lol but I'll consider it. Again thanks for your help
