Your therapist's advice is odd, I wonder if she sees your relapse as a personal failure that she wants to fix. Just know that this is only and all about you.
I have removed myself from my schooling on and off for several years when my disorder has become front and centre. In the end it's the healthiest option for me, in that it allows me to focus on what is happening in my life which is causing the stress to ignite the NEED to be in active disorder. It took a long time - I too feared that if I didn't do school quickly and stay with my peers that I would fall behind and be a "failure" - that in the end I have to focus on me. No one else. No barriers or distractions (School and education is my other addiction in it allows me to ignore the real problems facing my life) and really explore who I am.
None of us can tell you what to do, and your therapists can only voice opinions. This is a challenge and in the end it comes down to; do you want to be healthy, happy, or sick and in chronic depression or stress? What has helped me is making lists. I keep an ED notebook of where I want to be in 5 years, and where ED will take me in that time frame if I allow it. I want to be able to go to Italy and eat pasta without feeling guilty. There are numerous wants and desires I can only do once I learn to love myself, through and through.
Be healthy, be strong, and know that you're a unique individual who deserves a moment to breathe, live and explore this world. :)
Never give up.
i wish you the best of luck in this decision. Don't loose your will. You aren't alone.
