Hi, I have I am new here. I am struggling with bulimia and alcoholism. I started having this disorder when I was in my late teens. I lived for years almost without any problems, but in the last 3 years or so, it has returned and I am getting worse. I have a counselor who I love, but I haven't made any progress with these challenges. Today I decided to look into online support, and I so here I am.
I am glad I am here,

Thank you Lucky, I see that you give wonderful support on here. Are you part of daily strength or a member in recovery?

Thank you. :-) I am a member in recovery. Im towards the end of my healing process and no longer binge or starve myself. It's still a work on progress but it's not an every minute of every day issue for me any more.

That's awesome! What changed for you? Counseling? Local support groups? I try so hard, but know that I am inconsistent with what I try. I have a counselor, and I but am not getting better. Sometimes it is maddening, exhausting and just so scary that I don't seem to make progress.

What helped me the most was going into my past, finding the trauma's there (I blocked out 5 years of abuse) and healing them. I also worked on healing from living with a toxic family. For me, during the time I was doing this work, healing the ED was never a thought on my mind. I didn't like that I was still binging and starving but I could also see that the ED was my ONLY coping mechanism as a kid and as an adult so I gave myself permission to have the ED. Once I got through a lot of the trauma healing I was able to focus on the ED. It's certainly been a journey as it is for anyone who makes the decision to fully heal. If you have trauma in your past you may want to work on healing it. If you are doing that now then please be patient with yourself - it takes time (8 years and counting for me).
