Or, honestly, he might not even realize what he's doing. He might all of the sudden be really conscious of what he is eating, because he's keeping track of you. So he might just be dropping down the portion size from being overly aware of what he's putting in his mouth.
Talk to him, be honest about how you feel, and ask him how he feels. Allow him to respond before jumping the gun. But don't have this conversation near or over dinner. Conversations that involve what we intake are just bound to make us concentrate on what we do eat. And if the conversation gets emotional, that can be a trigger too.
