The interesting thing is I don't even miss it. Am I still frightened of gaining weight etc. Yes but not enough to keep killing myself. There is hope.
Also, after over a decade of suffering with an ED, I have no fear of the problems it will cause me. I actually welcome problems because it means I have a tangible reason to try and get better.
I've been hospitalised, put in a residential treatment, poked and prodded, also suffered from limited mobility (took medication in the hospital), told to gain weight, told to maintain weight, told to lose weight, etc etc. I've lost friends, relationships, and pushed my family away. I don't leave my apartment much anymore and my every day is started by thinking about what I'm going to eat. People don't trust me anymore, and I don't trust myself. I can't go to restaurants, I can't eat outside, I can't eat anywhere but in front of the television...or else I'll go into panic attack mode. I haven't been to the dentist in ages, because I know very well that I have bunches of cavities.
And yet, despite all that crap, I "refuse to get better." Sometimes, I guess you could say, I can't stop it anymore, because it's past that stage.
I tried to get better by myself several years ago, but I'm just back where I was...except worse.
I suppose years of this illness has made me cynical. I just think there is a difference between being realistic and being negative.
You all know as well as I do eating doesn't solve an ED. It's a mental illness that requires mental fixing. You're right though, it can cause lasting physical problems as well- all the more reason to check yourself into a good clinic when you're ready to recover.
