I really do! I have been a picky eater my whole life. I am afraid to gain weight but I exercise a lot instead of purging. When I do eat I eat either really healthy foods or junk food. Obviously the holidays are a trigger for most of us. Expected to join in the feast.... oh it was disgusting! The sound of people eating makes me so irritated and uncomfortable....especially crunchy foods .and people who don't close their mouths to chew...
Ahhhhh more food tomorrow! I just walked 6miles.... at least I haven't gained weight!

over exercising or exercising solely to burn all you have consumed IS purging.

I'm an anorexic who has always liked food, so not eating was really torture. I wonder if you really hate food or if you hate that you can't have it or how poorly some people's eating manners are. I'm the same way. If people stuff themselves, or smack or eat with their mouths open is grosses me out.

Karrin has a really good point here. The opposites of hate and love are both indifference. Hate and love are almost the same emotion and are not opposites at all. If you have a love/hate relationship with food, recognizing it that way can be a big help towards recovery.

I see your point karrin and thanx marcres for your insight. I guess my biggest issue with food is the social aspect. It was always the time when my whole family got together. The dinner table is where we talked about the day. My brother and sister were always busy with this and that so when my turn came to talk I would be criticized that I wasn't more like ______. So I stopped going to the dinner table. Little did I know that my sister was in fact anorexic so I modled my eating habits after her as best as I could..."am I as good as my sister now!" To make matters worse I was overweight so I felt as if I had failed... so maybe I don't "hate" food, but rather dislike the act of eating. Like everytime I eat I hear their criticism. Now with everyone home I feel venerable again. I'm am trying so hard to get better, to love myself, and I am so thankful for all of you here on DS! Thank you all for your words

You know something I've been focusing on in my recovery for the last week is self-talk. There are little sub-personalities in all of us, some stronger than others, who tell us how to feel and criticize us. I'd look into that online and see if you can read up on it. What's helped me recently is, when I'm feeling really anxious and overwhelmed and helpless, I ask myself, what is my self-talk saying? And I write it down. Getting it on paper helps. It can be scary because seeing it in print can make it feel like it's more true, but it usually objectifies the thought and I'm able to say, okay, this is why this thought doesn't make sense or isn't true or valid. A therapist I used to see gave me a packet he copied from an anxiety workbook. I've gleaned all I can from it and would be happy to mail it to you if you're comfortable with the idea.
