I am so sick of the media making eating disorders look like a rich, bratty, stuck up behavior. Like only shallow girls who care only about looks get eating disorders. UGH! Seriously, it makes me so mad.
EXAMPLE: In the "Pink" video where she is making fun of the hollywood, stuck up, rich celebrity girls and talks about how stupid they are and how she hates them...well, there is a part in there where she mocks them b/c a lot of them are bulimics, and she's trying to make them looked down upon and stupid for throwing up.
I wish I could just talk to the media (yell at it, actually), I'd say; I am bulimic! NOT shallow! NOT snobby! NOT a bitch! Just eating disordered!! Don't judge me by a mental illness or a diagonses!!! and Fuck you!!!!!
ok, I am just working myself up now. apologies. But doesn't that just piss you off?

It truly is disgusting what the media portrays EDs as. Unfortunately, it makes a lot of my more immature friends confused and they just tell me "you're not fat!" as if that will help. Sigh.

Yep! As you get older you seem to get more understanding I find, as if when you're young it's "just a fad". When I was really skinny as a teenager everyone assumed it was my choice. Now I'm getting skinnier again as a more mature woman people realise that it's not in my control. It's as if now I'm older it can't be to do with my looks. Kind of proves your point nicely I feel.

Yes it does! also the ones that say all fat people are lazy ppl who would loose weight if they just got up and did something. (add all other generic put downs here) yep it makes me mad too, and a bit self conscious sometimes

Yes I completely understand where you're coming from. People say to me, 'But you're not fat.' as if that's just going to make all the difference. I wish I could explain to them that there's just a little more to it than that.

What's worse is that not only do many people make fun of EDs, but they don't actually know what they really are.

It makes me mad too. You say you would like to talk to the media. Do it. I was so pissed off at an article in our daily newspaper about a coach who required girls to be underweight and made light of EDs that I wrote a letter to the editor. I got all my anger out at that ignorant f.. and felt so much better.

I think the media is nonsense. The people who get the real issues are the people that feel they cant live up to the expectations of the stuck up people etc and who are put down in society or well at least it is that in my view!!!!
