Hey guys, I hope you're all doing well. Anyways, I was just wodnering if anybody else deals with this oxymoron of a disorder? It's so strange, because my eating habits are always to the extreme. I'll starve for a while, during which time I feel lin control and purposeful, and then I'll go through periods of binges, where I feel worthless and hopeless. For me personally, I usually binge on healthy foods, and my daily caloric intake never exceeds 200 calories during binges. But I was curious to see if I was the only contradictory victim of ED here?

I do the same sort of thing. I either binge and purge, or I don't eat much at all. I'm trying to find a "middle of the road" way to eat.

ED's are definately an oxymoron for most. I struggle with this same issue for some time...

I used to do the same thing. Starve and stuff, horrible trap. I was so confused and didn't understand it. I still don't understand it completely, even after treatment. You are definitely not alone in this. XOXO

I'm caught up that cycle as well...When I am restricting I feel so in control, but when I do what I consider to be a binge I feel totally out of control and anxious..

your situation isn't so contradictory or abnormal at all - i think it's just a natural part of the disorder. your disorder compels you to starve as it gives you power, but after starving for a certain amount of time the body takes over and takes in the calories it needs to survive. it's mainly instinctual, if you don't eat for a long enough time sooner or later your body will take over and eat the food it needs and wants. the black and white thinking (starving or eating everything) is a huge part of the ED mindset as well. don't worry, you're not an eating disordered anomaly of sorts, what you're going through is i think pretty common in people with EDs.

Yep, I'm TOTALLY an all-or-nothing, black & white personality too. In ALL aspects of my life.

I go through similar cycle...Restrict - purge by overly exercising, then binge - eat what my body wants, then feel guilty and the whole cycle starts again...I feel like the childhood song "the wheels on the bus go round and round"

i too go witout eating just water and coffe and bubble gum for flavor plus vitamins. then ill bing and purge cause i miss being full but ill feel like ive betrayed my sel so ill trow it out. another weird thing i do is ill chew up food in my mouth and instead of swallowing it i pour it out of my mouth into a cup, then i see all that doesnt go in me and fell proud. how stupid is that.
