So I am taking Topamax for Bipolar and I'm also on Xanax for anxiety although I take that as needed. So I just wanted to lay that out there. One of the side effects of Topamax is a change of appetite or lack therefore. Well, since I had never tried it and my medications weren't working my doctor put me on that which I was estatic because I really wanted to work on losing weight by the time that I graduated college (June 16th)
But now 4 weeks later, my wife is really concerned because I've really restricted what I eat and what I don't eat. I consistently look at labels and will not eat certain foods if they contain too much of one thing like sugar, sodium, carbs, or calories especially!
But the thing I'm constantly telling my wife is that the side effect to this medication is that you dont feel as hungry as you normally do, therefore, you dont eat as much. So I just dont feel the need. And I honestly feel like I'm just eating healthier now, which is why I've lost so much weight..Am I wrong?
And since I'm taking 16 credits this term and working 30+ hours at my internship site I don't really have a lot of time on my hands to have a decent meal and I will not stop for any kind of fast food.
So the amount of calories I'm only able to literally intake now is about 400-500 a day if that. If I have anymore I feel totally sick and there's a voice in my mind that is literally screaming at me and telling me its way too much you need to wait until the next day or until you've hit your target weight.
I've probably lost more than 15 lbs in less than 2 months but I also think that has to do with the amount of stress I'm under. But I'm wondering is...does this mean that even though a person is bulimia they can slip into anorexic phases as well?
I wonder this because I'm 5'1 and I'm not under 100 so I don't feel like I'm anorexic. Not that I'm trying to label...I just dont know what this means..

you can still be anorexic even if you're not under 100.....personally i think that you're doing some unhealthy eating habits....consuming 400-500 calories a day is NOT healthy....i strongly recommend that you talk to your doctor about the side effetcs and what you're doing...restricting your eating or counting calories is NOT the way to lose weight.....it hurts your body and it can really damage your mental health as well.....i was admitted at the end of april to a behavioral health hospital becasue i had restricted my eating for a week and my EKGs were bad, i had very little calcium and very little potassiom in my body, and i was dehydrated....my bloodwork told me all of this.....this and worse things can happen if you restrict.....i would talk to your doctor and see what they say, but i urge you to try and stop what you're doing.....it doesn't seem very healthy....

It's very hard to admit to myself that I have a problem with restricting food, but I do realize that it's not healthy. The doctor who prescribed the medication to me does not know that I have an eating disorder and I'm not comfortable talking to him about it. I'm really trying to avoid having to be taken off this medication because of this side effect because it is working well for me (mental wise). Is it a good thing to know that I'm drink at least 64 ounces of water a day so I'm staying hydrated? I really appreciate your advice. I'm sorry to hear that you had to be admitted. That must have been scary. That's good to know about the anorexia (100 lbs thing). I dont know if I wanna know what my levels are at the moment...
