Dyspraxia & Apraxia Support Group
Dyspraxia is difficulty getting the body to do what we want when we want to do it. Apraxia is a neurological disorder characterized by being unable to execute or carry out learned (familiar) movements, even if the desire and physical ability is there. This group is dedicated to those coping with either aprxia or dyspraxia. Join the group to find support and get advice.
The tips I have are these: (1)Do the homework that the therapist gives you. Even if it\'s frustrating. (2)Don\'t give up. (3)Sign language and picture boards are a God-send. (4)Go to apraxia-kids.org; they have the most extensive website I\'ve found, with the best information.
God bless you and your family, and good luck. I know how frustrating the disorder can be, but I hope I\'ve been able to give you some hope that all of the hard work really does pay off.
Son same as me but his was less and worked well.
I have a 21 month old DD that isn't talking and Early Intervention therapists said that she has a speech delay and has Sensory Processing disorder.
Someone told me to look into Apraxia and the symptoms seem to fit, even though I read that they won't diagnose children until 3.
We have been going to a speech therapist for a few months and it's not helping. My DD has fun there and really likes the ST, but it feels like a waste of time and she won't do any homework with me.
Please let me know on this thread or send me a message if you know the answer!!! I'm getting frustrated and worried about my DD!
TIA
