Dyspraxia & Apraxia Support Group
Dyspraxia is difficulty getting the body to do what we want when we want to do it. Apraxia is a neurological disorder characterized by being unable to execute or carry out learned (familiar) movements, even if the desire and physical ability is there. This group is dedicated to those coping with either aprxia or dyspraxia. Join the group to find support and get advice.
In middle school, she suffered from depression which is a side affect of dyspraxia and apraxia especially during the teen years.
Fast forward, my daughter is now a high school senior. She is an honors student and a member of the National Honor Society. She still speaks fluently with problems cropping up when she becomes anxious. We are currently working on completing college applications and how to respond in interviews. She has learned wonderful coping techniques.
Some speech therapists do diagnose apraxia as young as 18 months, I think. Most cases I think are diagnosed between ages 5 and 7.
If you have questions, please let me know. I will be happy to answer based on my personal experiences with my daughter.
