I'm able to type an event and have my phone go off at whichever time I need. I've also written things down and have set up iGoogle calendar with timers to go off. Some days it works and some it doesn't. Sometimes I just seem to be in another time zone all together.
I'm always early. I thank my dad for that, because HE is anal-retentive about being on time, and thus, I'm early to EVERYTHING. Better than being ridiculously late, I guess. Both have advantages and disadvantages.
When I have an appointment somewhere, I try to go to that location and time the drive to see how long it takes and adjust my departure. For example, I used to live by Oak Park in Overland Park. My job was in Olathe. It took me about 15-20 minutes to get there. Then I moved to Overland Park, half an hour from where I USED to live. I drove to my job to see how long it would take to get there from a different location. On the highway, took about twenty minutes. On the regular road, anywhere between twenty minutes to half an hour, depending on traffic. I had to go through TWENTY SEVEN INTERSECTIONS going from 95th and Mission to 135th and Blackbob. That's a lot of bloody intersections! Say I had to be at work at two. I would leave at a quarter to one, to allow for traffic. I'd get to work 45 minutes early, but that's fine.
