Dry Eyes Support Group
Dry eyes is an eye disease caused by decreased tear production or increased tear film evaporation. Symptoms include burning and a sandy-gritty eye irritation that gets worse as the day goes on. The symptoms are often caused by a loss of water from the tears that results in tears that are too "salty" or hypertonic.
The biggest catch in dry-eye therapy is that in order to get results, you need more than one healing vector.
It's like a multiplication. You have approaches a,b and c, and the result is say, "x".
a*b*c=x
If you only do approach a, then you get 1*0*0=0
If you only do a and b, you still get 1*1*0=0
If you do all of them, then you suddenly get 1*1*1=1, or an actual improvement.
This can have a de-spiriting effect on those of us who haven't figured out the mandatory approaches to be utilized at once.
This is the result of 14 years of experimentation, and I will update this thread as my conclusions change. Meanwhile it may help you.

I am not sure which c is the best, and this is the current experiment.
Overall, a,b,c together should result in improvement.

These are some findings on which my current results are based:
1) I observed having no results from many fish oil brands, but Nordic Naturals is one of the highest quality available, and it did something for me.
2) There are several clinical studies documenting anti-inflammatory effect of GLA (gamma-linoleic acid) on dry eye syndrome.
3) There is a clinical study documenting real improvements to dry eye patients taking the HydroEye supplement. It is the only study regarding such a supplement that actually succeeded across a wide range of potential causes.
4) Borage Oil has the highest concentration of GLA.
5) HydroEye's dominating component is also an oil rich with GLA.
6) There's a process called LipiFlow which was proven to improve dry eye condition through essentially projecting heat into the eyes while massaging them. But since not all of us have $1500 to throw around for a glorified compress, a microwaveable dry eye compress like the above works very well to clean out the gunk from glands.
Your results may vary, but this may help. Just remember, you have to try all 3 at once.
I also experienced intermittent improvement with Astaxanthin, but later on it stopped working, and I'm not sure about its efficacy.

Given how widespread D-deficiency really is, and how hard it is to overdose on D3, I don't think this is a big deal.
