Dry Eyes Support Group
Dry eyes is an eye disease caused by decreased tear production or increased tear film evaporation. Symptoms include burning and a sandy-gritty eye irritation that gets worse as the day goes on. The symptoms are often caused by a loss of water from the tears that results in tears that are too "salty" or hypertonic.
When I was first diagnosed with meibomian gland dysfunction and blepharitis in May 2011 I started using restasis. I am not sure if it was that or just how my eyes were at the time but yes, each morning I would wake up and there would be gook in my eyes as well as crusty bits in my eye lashes. It does go away after a while. I have been using over the counter dry eye ointment to sleep in since last Christmas and there is no gook when I wake up. Are you using a warm compress on your eyes to unclog the glands? Is this a part of your eye care routine? It is for me and I've noticed that being consistent with my eyelid care eliminated that gook and crusty stuff. I am also not losing as many lashes as I used to. Good luck!
