One evening heavy rain with high winds severed several branches from the saaasfras trees that
shaded my bachyard.The next morning I saw the debris when I looked out my window.Alone since my husband's death,I moaned,as the task of cleaning up the yard seemed insurmountable.
"How will I ever get this mess cleaned up?"I said half-aloud.
I dailed my neighbor's phone nymber to ask if their teenage son could give me a hand.He had used s saw to
cut up some downed branches for me after a previous storm, and I was hoping he could lend muscle power to this predicament,too. The phone rang several times, but there was no anwer. Then I remembered that the family was away for the week on vaction.
"I guess it's up to You and me Lord,"I headed to the shed to gather some tools. I had no idea how I was going to clear away the rubble, and I prayed for divine strength to help me.
The first limb I approached was about six feet long.
I broke off one of the small branches from the main trunk and stuffed it into a trash bag. The ease with which ot snapped off surprised me. I moved to another branch and found this one snapped off easily too.
A few minutes later, only the main trunk of the limb remained. I was sure that would be my down fall. To my astonishment, I found when I put my foot on the limb and pulled it upward, it easily snapped in two. The wood of sassafras trees is very brittle in dead branches.
In a little over than an hour, I had the bachyard completely cleared of debris. By breaking off the small branches first, then tackling the main truck, I had easily accomplished the task.
With the work finished, I thanked God for showing me how it should be done.I realized then, this is the same way He shows us how to conquer most of our problems one branch at a time, one problem at a time,one day at a time.If we nibble away at a problem instead of trying to chew up the whole thing at once, we can usually handle it. .
