I see no one has commented! Personally I think they are cruel! If you cant handle the dog then don't get one. I have two boxers and they are very well trained. The wont leave my side when were walking. Even when someone calls them. I always used positive reinforcements. My neighbor used a shock collar on his dog and he got a good ass chewing from me. The poor dog was running out into the cul-d-sac yelping.

They are no substitute for training, but they sure do cost a lot more. :-)

i was just asking, because i was looking into that invisible fence, which is basically a shock collar. im building a fence, but my little dogs are escape artists, and im still worried they will escape, and i dont want them to go running around the road. i live by a fairly busy road now.

I'm sorry. I never thought of that. I don't know anything about those fences but, in your shoes, i would wonder about them too.

they are boston terriers, they jump, very high and if there is any defect in the fence they will exploit it. they managed to make a hole and sqeeze through, and were running around in the bushes, i swear i could hear them laughing at me.

I find putting a collar around a dog and then shocking it, is the most cruel thing ever.

Then I do agree with invisible fences, Cwe actually had one and it worked on one dog, but not the other.
Charlotte would go right through without any trouble and they were working because Faith was close to the start of "warning" little shock and she jumped like three feet.

To bad there was no 30 day trail on dog collars. I got my invisible fence on ebay and they come with two collars for around $180.00 U.S.

I personally am against shock collars, both because I find them unnecessarily cruel and because many owners abuse them. It breaks my heart to see owners ramp up the shock collars because their dog "needs a lesson". That is disgusting. How could you even think of applying a more intense electric shock to an animal than you would to your own body? Shocking a dog into obedience is destroying the animal's life and well-being, and by NO means is an effective training method.

That being said, I've heard and seen some owners use invisible fences effectively. I would proceed with caution.

i know those that do, i know they are expensive, but they are portable, so wherever i move i would have it.
i just dont want to take the chance of my puppies getting hit. it would kill me. they are well trained otherwise, they just have tendancy to explore. i was taking them on regular walks, and one day i couldnt do it, had the baby, was sick... ect.. and i let them out to pee and they decided to go on their own walk. my sister found them as she was on her way to my house, they went on the exact walk we had gone on the day prior.
and when i say escape artist, i mean it. when my puppy was 6 weeks old, if even that, she dug a little itsy bitsy hole out of the outside puppy kennel, made it up the steps, and sat at my feet, she REFUSED to stay in any enclosure, she had to be with me, we would try to crate train her, and she would cry and cry and cry... NONSTOP... and if you didnt take her out, she would poop herself, cause she knew you would take her out to clean her. i gave up. she has slept in my bed every since. lol.
