Hey Dracona, maybe there is an abcess somewhere, or a rotten tooth. Has he always smelt? If you mean farts smell, well thats easy to fix by giving charcoal tablets. You can get them from a chemist. If his body smells and hasnt always smelt a trip to the vets might be need. He may be sick. Poor little darling its not his fault he smells. Good luck in finding a solution.

Thanks susan... i just need to find a new vet, im with banfield, and they are HORRIBLE where i am. and OVERPRICED. and everytime you bring your dog in they want to charge you 500 for tests.
but the charcoal tablets ive never heard of, ill try to see where i can find them... THANKS so much. ANY information helps. id do anything to get this smell away. cause there are short spans of time, where he doesnt stink... but its short. lol... and i want to cuddle him without getting a perm to my hair and my nostrils.

Just wondering if you have tried a medicated soap. I groom dogs and sometimes our pets need a medicated bath. The soaps can be purchased at your vet. They do help if there is a skin problem. Also another reason for problems like yours is a simple fix. Does your dog have a plastic bowl or does he use a metal or ceramic bowl for his food and water. Pets can have an allergic reaction to plastic food and water bowls. Hypo allergenic food could also be a help. I hope you find the cause. Good luck.

This sounds like an anal gland problem! This wold explain why he has periods of no odor. He needs to have his anal glands expressed. The smell is not like "poop", as you might expect, but more like a rotten, fishy odor, that tends to "come-and-go". He may be trying to self-express, but will need to have it done for him to empty all the contents. This has to be done more often in some dogs than in others and some have much more fluid than others. If you're not sure how to do it ( and it is not a very pleasant experience if you have never done it...and even if you have! ) ask your groomer or vet to show you how. It isn't hard to do, but it does smell and can be rather messy. Bathers do it as part of the bathing process whenever you have a dog groomed or bathed, so you might want to consider having him done at a grooming parlor. He should never be bathed more often than every two weeks or so, unless under a vets supervision. If you have his anal glands expressed the odor should subside immediately but it will have to be done again periodically to keep them clear. A good bath at this time will remove any discharge he may have on his fur too. You may have noticed the odor follows him wherever he goes and his bed, your couch, car, rugs, etc. will also smell and need to be wiped clean to remove such odors. Baby wipes also help as you can wipe his anal area and back legs to remove a lot of the discharge,odor and also some of the hard surfaces in your home that smell.
Take him to a groomer or vet and have them check his glands ASAP, as these can become impacted if not drained and cause pain and other problems too.

i thought about that too, my vet charges like 30 bucks to do it. yuck.
just hard to tell with him, cause his old owner, said that he stunk even after that, and has stunk since he was a pup. so thanks all... im just making a big list, and gonna try all of the above.

next week on payday, he is getting deskunked lol
