Do your dogs know when you are sad?

Two weeks ago we miscarried our baby and have been plunged into a period of deep grief. Our 3 dogs have each reacted differently...Naturally, the Toy Fox Terrier didn't miss a beat. He is 100 miles an hour no matter what is going on! LOL Our Lab just wanted to cuddle with our 12 yr old daughter, who really took the loss hard. He is a sensitive soul and seems to want to sleep as much as possible right now.

Our English Mastiff, however, seemed to grieve so deeply.. he became flat-out distraught. Kept his head right by me and would sit and kiss my hand for an hour (he is NOT a kisser). He actually got so upset that he developed Lick Granuloma and we had to immediately start treating the spot and distracting him. All he needed was extra TLC. It is really so sweet...he is just such a loving, tender boy.

I just wondered if anyone has stories about how their dogs have brought them comfort during hard times...have you ever seen them grieve while you grieve? Where would we be without these beautiful furry kids?!?

My hubby told me that when I was in hospital, our Border Collie would sulk and just not eat as well. When I came home he wouldn't leave my side. He literally layed right beside me for hours nudging me to check and make sure I was okay.

My Border loved my mom and when she passed on. He moped around the house for a few weeks. Every time my dad came over. The Border would check the car for her.

If I cried or was sad, my Border would snuggle up to me and lick my face over and over again. Like he was wiping the tears away. Dogs are very sensitive. I have to laugh because I think they are more sensitive then Men. Sometimes I get more loving with my dog than hubby.

So true! They just seem to feel along with us...and not have any expectations in return (just food & love). :-) That is so sweet of your little furry guy!

My Pug, Star, who is 5 yrs. old has always brought comfort to me in my times of sorrow. My mother passed away 3 weeks ago and Star had been by my side constantly. She went into my mother's room when I brought her belongings back from the nursing home and when she smelled the houseshoes that I put on a low shelf she wagged her tail to beat the drum. Dogs are very sensitive.
When I first developed lupus and was very sick several years ago my dog stayed in bed with me, by my side, as if to tell me that if I needed anything he was there. Pam

Pamela, that is SO SO sweet! Star sounds like a total sweetie and she is lucky to have you for a Mommy!! So so sorry about your Mom's passing. I am so glad Star is there to bring you comfort. Our furry kids are just the best...they are always happy to see us...don't need too much and never talk back! :-) Blessings & prayers coming your way!

Yes they do, when my dad was dying our one dog Wendy sat at the bottom of his bed and would put her head to one side and then to the other side. She had such sad eyes. Then when he passed away our other dog Bikkie lost all his hair, he was my dads dog. So he was so stress out by his passing. Dogs do feel it and they do know that is for sure.

''Dogs KNOW'', I was just talking to our vet about this, He said ""THEY KNOW"", and have the same feelings as we do, They grieve with us, awwww......My sweet dog suffers when I suffer, she is always there, When I lost several friends/loved-one, 7, within a year, she was right there with me, oh she was such a comfort !

Last year I had a hysterectomy, I was in the hospital 4 days and each day my husband would call to talk to me, he would let our Boxer, Boston hear my voice and as soon as he heard me he would go eat, he would not eat until he heard my voice, so phone calls were 3 times a day.

I was diagnosed with Fibro Myalgia this Sept, I have been feeling bad and trying to hide it, well, I can hide it from my husband, but Boss knows, he will walk right beside me everywhere I go, he will lay on my feet when I am resting, so I can't move. If I cry or sometimes even say ouch, he goes to get my husband. He is such a comfort.

My beautiful dog Jazzie has just died and the chickens know something is wrong. One of them keeps bleating outside the kitchen door, they used to follow her everywhere

Sorry for you loss.
I believe that dogs and other animals can sense our moods.
I know that my dogs know I am well, I have MS, and I am sure they understand it.

I don't know where we would be without our furry boys!! They really do love and take care of us! Jodilynn so sorry about your MS! Thank you Rockysowner and Jodilynn for your kind remarks, too. We are blessed to have our human girls and canine boys on Earth with us while we grieve our little boy in Heaven...Our lab is still by our 12 yr old's side 24/7 to comfort her and our big boy, Duke takes care of all of us. He worries over our 2 yr old, who has a bunch of medical problems...he is by my side when I can't hold back tears...he is amazing and the furry love of my life! :-)

    My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Im ready to start...
