No Balance?

Back in September I had a cold, which turned into an inner ear infection, which caused me to loose the balance center on the left side. I was tested and told I had NO function in my left ear. It took a full week to get a referral from my doc to an ENT. The ENT put me on an antiviral, almost 2 full weeks after the accute attack of vertigo. It then took a couple of months to get referred to a vesitbular therapist. I am now in therapy to 'train' the right side to take over for the left side. OK< now, I had a cold for over a week when my right ear started hurting. I went to the doc and was diagnosed with a sinus infection. I am terrified of another attack of vertigo and loosing my balance on the right side. What do you even do if you don't have balance on either side?

I have a condition that frequently occurs in both ears. People who opt to have it repaired in both ears lose complete balance function on both sides. They reportedly do just fine with both balance centers disabled. It apparently takes the brain a while to adjust, but it does adjust.

OH, you poor thing. Vertigo is the most bizarre, creepy, weird illness that I can even think of, and I can totally relate to worrying that it would come back. Yuck.

I really hope you don't get a bad bout of vertigo.

If you do, I can recommend staying in bed and playing online bejeweled while listening to Nevasick, which is an app on ipods and such.

It will get better again!!! Hang in there!!

I was told once you have an attack can happen again. You're your best advocate, don't wait to get referral to therapy. Take action and let your voice be heard. I am still recovering from a very bad attack that puts me out of work for a month. I had no sympathy from my employer and all they care is when I be back to work. I am still not at a hundred percent. I don't think everyone at work believes me cuz by looking at a person with verifgo; you can't really tell.
