Dizziness & Vertigo Support Group
Dizziness is the sensation of instability. Vertigo refers to dizziness with a sensation of motion. Vertigo is more likely than other types of dizziness to be associated with nausea, vomiting, or double vision, to occur even when lying down, and to feel better with the eyes closed. If you are a frequent sufferer of dizziness or vertigo, join the group and find support.
You say, they're telling you that you have crystals loose in your ear canal? That's seems to be a common cause for many people. And it often seems to be fairly simple "treatment" through specific head maneuvers. But not always.
Did they lay you back and see a shaking in your eyes? A "nystagmus?"
One nurse I know has had vertigo for a long time -- with the BPPV. Possibly because of a serious car accident years ago:
She was ejected from a Jeep. She tried to show me the head maneuvers that worked for her, but they did nothing for me. BPPV does not seem to be my cause.
Unfortunately, her vertigo has gotten worse recently, and a brain scan has revealed something suspicious in there.
So, if you haven't already gone through the barrage tests, do so if you can afford to. At least, you should come out knowing what you don't have.
Sounds like someone needs to try an Eply Maneuver on you to rearrange any possible debris in your ear canal.
There's lots of examples of how to do it on YouTube, but you might need to wait for a professional, especially if you got so dizzy just from laying back for a little bit like that. I think they need to figure out which one of your ears is causing the bad signal first, if you do have BPPV.
lulugirl: You need to find some ways to lower your stress level. Stress is deadly -- very deadly. Stress to the point of shaking is very, very bad. Five minutes of deep breathing, guided imagery, meditation, etc. could ultimately save you're life. Don't wait for a heart attack or stroke to decide you need to get your stress under control. You might not survive those. When you feel the stress coming on, take a five minute mini-vacation. It will do you a world of good (and could save your life).
Crystals in your ear usually means BPPV. I have BPPV (among other things). I get vertigo when I look up. I get vertigo when I turn my head to the left - especially when I am laying down. I had surgery that disabled the balance center in my left ear, so I am dizzy most of the time. It's only when I over-do it (or turn my head into the above-mentioned positions) that I get vertigo. The epley maneuver is very successful in moving the crystals so the vertigo gets less intense or goes away completely. My neighbor has to get the Epley maneuver about every six months. He's completely normal between these BPPV episodes.
Please do something about the stress.
