Divorce after Twenty years together Community Group
I want to start something for those of us that were married for a long long time. I think that we face a little different issues than those who were dating for a few years or even married for shorter period of time. Being married for so long we have older children some have grandkids dealing with teenagers and their reaction to the divorice empty nesters dating after 40...
So here's a question for those of you further along the process than I am...
How many of you kept the house you've shared for x number of years?
My stbx is pretty much willing to walk away with not much more than her clothes. (Oh, and 1/2 the assets..)
She's moving out of state, so obviously doesn't want the house. I'm trying to determine if I really do want it.
Been here 15 years. Love the place, neighborhood, etc. my business is run from here. Not to mention the pita of selling, moving, and all of that. And I really do like it here.
But my fear is the past is going to haunt me here. Lots of memories to contend with. But the flip side is that there is some security here in the familiar surroundings. No kids, so that's not an issue.
Any of you guys stay in "the house", and if so, how did you deals with the ghosts?

I wanted out, myself, but I never did love that house. HE made us move there, I loved my old house and wanted to renovate it (the family outgrew it) or stay in the 'old' neighbourhood so the kids would stay in the same school. Of course we did what HE wanted so that last house...well, it just never did it for me. I got rid of most of my furniture too....he took HALF the furniture as it was anyhow! Good luck - you'll do the right thing for you!
