Divorce after Twenty years together Community Group
I want to start something for those of us that were married for a long long time. I think that we face a little different issues than those who were dating for a few years or even married for shorter period of time. Being married for so long we have older children some have grandkids dealing with teenagers and their reaction to the divorice empty nesters dating after 40...

Lots of people have tried reconciliation and in most cases it doesn't work. There's too much hurt and as the others say - once the trust is broken, that's it. You just can't get it back. It's not impossible, but highly unlikely.
Feel the sadness, and when people say things like that, try not to get that "hope" a flowing... Something better is headed your way - you'll see.
I wonder if I said to them we were getting back together if any of them would even talk to me again ha ha ha...
I try to see it for what it is: longing for what coulda/shouda/woulda been, realize it isn't real, it's a fantasy, and set it aside so I can move on.
Like others said, it's sad.... but it's a part of grieving and it happens.
Those bouts of nostalgia are what I call "Wistful Thinking" and they come and go. It happens a lot less these days, but I'm 8 years out from final divorce. I suppose one day I won't ever have those thoughts anymore. I choose to remember the good times, but I cannot forget the awful times. That's what I call self-preservation.
I would love to have the confirmation you receive from your friends, KRK. I'm afraid my ex is too good at the oozing charm. However, I'm hearing odd tales of his slips in public. He showed his true self twice at his mother's funeral, and he lost it at the swimming pool with my daughter one day, too.
Startingover, my ex delivered the eulogy at my exMIL's funeral. I'm sure I wasn't the only one who registered the venom in his voice at one stage. He hated going to his sister's dancing concerts when he was a boy, and he actually looked at me, unable to contain his anger properly, when he told everyone that I enrolled our girls in dancing classes which meant he had to go to more dancing concerts. How dare I make a decision he didn't like! How dare I let my girls be girls! Let me tell you, he made sure he didn't attend as many as he could get out of, with no thought that our girls would like to know their Daddy was proud of them.
As time goes by, people will begin to see the reasons why we aren't together any more. Your friends will understand in time, Cmonge, and they'll stop asking you this question.
