Divorce after Twenty years together Community Group
I want to start something for those of us that were married for a long long time. I think that we face a little different issues than those who were dating for a few years or even married for shorter period of time. Being married for so long we have older children some have grandkids dealing with teenagers and their reaction to the divorice empty nesters dating after 40...

What we both miss is what we were, not what we are now. We miss those beautiful memories but they are in the past. Our ex's are not the same people they were. You are strong and caring. You will make it.
And honey, they ALL want to deflect the blame and the shame on the ones they leave behind. This is a pretty typical tactic -- it's all right out of "The Script: The 100% Predictable Things Men Do When They Cheat." Get on Amazon.com and order yourself a copy today.
While you're at it, go to RunawayHusbands.com and order the book by the same name. Written by Vikki Stark who is a therapist and who also went through it. Her book is based on interviews with hundreds of women in North America whose experiences were all the same. My life was written on the pages of BOTH of those books and it really helped to make sense of it all. Also full of good tips on how to get what YOU deserve in divorce.
Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.
That whole situation as to how you are living is so toxic. PLEASE see an attorney TODAY and find a therapist. And a divorce group. Anything and everything to get things moving and to protect yourself. Do NOT take your name off the least. He is incredibly stupid.
You will get through this. I have the knot in the stomach/sleeplessness/non-appetite/upset stomach too... But this will not last forever. Maybe for awhile, but WE will get through this!
HUGS!
Please don't sign anything more until you've got a good lawyer on your side, and make your husband and his family go through him/her. Take care and wishing you continued strength and healing.
or have him say 'Is there anything I could do to make it work? I'll go to therapy if you want'. I wanted to hear him say SOMETHING! He never said a word and he never asked me why.
You are going to just get yourself hurt. He is not going to look at you in the face. It's a nice dream but it's not reality. He is not going to tell you the truth. It will not bring an end to your hurt. It's also not the last time you will be seeing him I'm afraid.
Please please listen to everyone....do not sign anything until an attorney has looked it over and given his approval. During a divorce, spouses do not have the other's best interest in mind, believe me. I know you are scared. To leave something you are accustomed to, that is familiar to you, not knowing what is in store for you in the future is very scary. That's why abused women stay with their abuser. The known is less frightening then the unknown, But in your case I know you are leaving unhappiness and going towards happiness. Stay strong. You have a wonderful future to look forward to!
Oh....keep a small brown paper bag with you to use whenever you hyperventilate. Just breathe into it and you will be fine. When you hyperventilate, it means you are getting to much O2 and not enough carbon dioxide in your blood. A few breaths into the bag will get more carbon dioxide in your bloodstream.
You probably already know this. I can't help it. It's the mother in me (and the ret cardiac care RN too)
Dont sign anything. Go see a lawyer before you do anything else. Your ex will just have to wait. My guess is there is someone in the background and that's why he is in such a hurry to move things along...f##k him! That is predictable!
The ending of a long term marriage is a business deal. Try to look at it as if it was your career and you got fired...you are entitled to severance pay and 50% of all assets. By the sounds of it...money is his ruler...going after what is legally yours will hurt him more than anything else. Just remember...what goes around comes around...allow karma to do its thing.
I'm so sorry you are going through this...we've all been there so we get it...Big Hugs..Kathy
