I just thought it would be nice to get a conversation going within the group. We are in the same boat, so to speak, and having others respond right away would be soothing.

I do not know, I have been on this site since February 2008 and still have not had a chat with anyone.

We used to be able to but when the new owners took over this site they removed chat...why Im not sure...but it sucks!

You could try using the message system if you arrange to do it at the same time. It can be a bit slow, though.

When the webhost site changed the chat feature was removed. It is a great pity because it was a great tool. I used to use it often. Maybe we should all try asking for another chat facility to be added back to the site??

I didn't know it was gone. In the early years (2009 for me), I used it also. Maybe asking would help. I use messages to communicate privately with members. Then the member can get to it when they have time. Kamary and I "talked" just the other night (even though she is on the other side of the world. It is a wonderful community. CowGirlKathi, Hurtinanhealin and a couple of other members and I met at a lakehouse in Maryland a couple of years ago. Hurtinanhealin and I live in the same area (about 5 miles apart). I used to live in Idaho and several of us got together in Yellowstone. Like I said, it's a wonderful place that we all had to be.

The members I didn't name aren't on here anymore and can't remember their user names.

If I'm not mistaken, they were using Meebo as a platform for chat and it was causing all sorts of issues, I guess they simply decided to remove it and end all of their aggravation. You could obtain member's e-mail addresses and chat that way through any other chat program - gmail, yahoo etc. Just IM who you would like to chat with, and ask them to send you their e-mail.

KRK is right -- it was Meebo and it worked pretty well.

And thanks, drtexdi, for remembering our little retreat up at Deep Creek Lake, MD. That was so much fun to finally meet in person the folks who had mentored us and who we mentored!

Any of the members who live in the same geographic area I would strongly encourage to try to put together something similar. There is strength in numbers!

I have also been very happy to have KRKing and Tryin2BHappy come visit me down here in Naples, FL and I am trying to figure out a way to get up north this summer to visit a couple of others whom I met here on DS.

I'm thinking of heading up north during the summer for baseball Hall of Fame inductions in Cooperstown. I may have to look some of you up!
