Divorce after Twenty years together Community Group
I want to start something for those of us that were married for a long long time. I think that we face a little different issues than those who were dating for a few years or even married for shorter period of time. Being married for so long we have older children some have grandkids dealing with teenagers and their reaction to the divorice empty nesters dating after 40...

I moved out of the small town where we
Lived. It was the best thing i could Have
done. His relatives all live there, i still go
Back once in awhile thats it.
I live where the stores are, so i see
Everybody just not him and his family.
(((( hugs))))
I saw the wife at hair dresser, I felt awkward the entire time but never even acknowledged she was there.
I don't not have contact with the kids father anymore, other than sending receipts and requests by email. He responds that way too
I live in a medium sized town and have been fortunate not to run into the ex or the ow very often. However, when I do, I just hold my chin up and fake the big happy smile, say hello but don't hang around for chat.
Your goal is to feel good about yourself after any encounter, so practice being in control, rehearse how you might say hello with that big 'genuine' smile, and decide that you will always take the higher ground. Do what you have to do to be prepared, then forget about them and carry on with your own life.
Remember that he is no longer a part of your life. You have a new life now - one that is free from conflict and the misery you experienced when you were with him and what he did.
Don't let his presence influence your peace of mind. He is not important any more.
love and hugs

As in a little humor, it might be a good time to hire a YOUNGER and sexy male escort to be seen around town.....just because you know people talk ! Live a little!
But honestly, it does get easier overtime and I just tell myself that it has to be just as awkward for her. I mean you had how many years together with him and those good years are still there. Divorce can't take all that away. When you do run into them just remind yourself she's sporting YOUR hand me down!! good luck and chin up! ((hugs!))
I'm not advising or saying you're wrong, but it pisses me off to think you feel you can't go to YOUR church anymore because his parents are there. You didn't do this, he did. You have no call to run or hide, the shame doesn't belong to you, and liars know what they told. Liars know what they did. Denial is powerful, but it takes a great deal of energy to stay there, more than admitting and making amends for what they've done. I would probably be going to church more often just to say "I'm here, and I didn't do anything wrong, no matter what trash you spew." But that's me.
I hope the benefits for your children outweigh the ewww factor of having the new couple back in town. Best wishes for strength and grace.
Continue to live a good life and try not to let them change your own routines or happiness (any more than they already did!)
Social media told me my ex and his newest GF were at one of my favorite friendly neighborhood bars last weekend. I was PISSEDl. I don't own the place, but I want to feel comfortable going there that I won't see them. He's an alcoholic and has a large range of drinking establishments he hangs out in. I texted him and asked him to stay out of that one. I was dead serious.
This is one of those things that you really can't do much about. He could have stayed out of your area but he didn't so you will learn to deal with it. I don't know why they can't just stay away and make their own lives in a different town. Cmonge is right about becoming numb after dealing with an ex the first few times. I'm sorry you are having to learn how to deal with your ex living in your area. It has to be hard to adjust to the thought that you might see him at any time..
I had to wait until my son finished his senior year at school, and then I got out of there as fast as I could. The house was sold and I had a heck of a time finding a nice rental that would let me go month by month as I only wanted 7 months so that I could leave at asap! My town was a big one and he and his then gf (he married her one year after I moved away) only worked there, they lived a 30 mte drive away, but it still made me uneasy.
The idea of running into him/her made me sick and I thought, why put myself through that? I left a few really close friends behind, and I still miss them, but it was the right choice. I'm guessing you don't have an option to leave if you have a child who is settled in school there.
Follow some of the advice already given; avoid them as best you can, and shop either somewhere else or at a time when you at least think they won't be around. Maybe when they're at church where they SHOULD be praying for forgiveness . Not likely though ;) Hang in there sister. Plan your escape and leave them to eat your dust asap is my advice. Worked great for me! hugs
I hold my head up high.... I did not walk away from my marriage covenant.. I tried.. but God does not expect His children to stay in situations with manipulative and emotionally abusive people. I love the people in my old church but my ex in-laws are there every time the doors are open. For them it is about the appearances which is why their son would not attend church with me and our children except for rare occasions. I keep in touch with those I care about. I believe someone said that divorce is soul sucking! Perfect phrase for this situation!!!!
As for the ex and his mistress turned insecure wife, I will smile and nod when I have to see them in public.... and keep you guys posted!!!!
