Divorce after Twenty years together Community Group
I want to start something for those of us that were married for a long long time. I think that we face a little different issues than those who were dating for a few years or even married for shorter period of time. Being married for so long we have older children some have grandkids dealing with teenagers and their reaction to the divorice empty nesters dating after 40...
I met a fellow down here in Naples back in January. We see each other sometimes a lot and sometimes not so much. Not sure where it's going -- if anywhere -- but it's ok. There are lots of single men my age down here. Who knows? One of them could be THE ONE but if not, that's ok, too. I'm not planning on getting married again and I'm perfectly ok by myself.
I need to work on mine before I go online, so far I've got
"Scars & baggage, not looking to add any to yours"
That is a bit of a haha but in the profiles online people claim to have it all together,
I don't, I won't, I'm looking to pull myself together, I won't pull someone else apart, and I looking to pull someone through if they are honest with me about their scars and baggage.
Trust will be a major issue for me, so regardless of the circumstance / justification no, that's zero zilch nada none cheaters
I'm dating someone who I've been with for over a year. I met him online (match.com) and he'd been dating on and off for several years (he was over five years post separation when we met).
He SAYS that he fell in love with me almost immediately, which I suspected before he actually said it, and I found it very overwhelming to have a man tell me that he loves me! I just wanted to date, and wasn't thinking, drum roll please......LOVE (gasp!). I'm okay with it now, and comfortable to be able to tell him that I love him too! It took me a little longer to get there is all....
Just goes to show that when you put yourself out there, ya never know what you might find! Some folks are afraid that they WON'T find anyone, but it can be just as scary or maybe more so to find someone and fall in love again!
We've been taking it slow. After a while things sorta speeded up abit, and then got a bit rocky. We've had a few minor issues and one serious "break"(earlier this summer and initiated by me) but I have a good feeling things will work out for us. Time will tell. Either way....I'm okay with it. Somehow I fell like no man, no relationship, can ever hurt me the way I was hurt by the ex. That may or may not be true, but I just feel that way!
The thing is, as happy as I am to have someone in my life....it's NOT the most important part of my life! Maybe I'm jaded, or just still a little raw, but sometimes I feel like I'll never be fully able to 'jump in' for lack of a better phrase with all of my heart and soul. Maybe divorce changed me. I truly don't know. I may never know.
Then I slowly began to see that some of those guys are just like me. They were the wounded ones. Their baggage was not of their own doing. So I began to adjust my thinking to see that a new relationships could do us both good. We could learn from our first relationship and make the new one better because of it.
So I am no longer afraid of a new man entering my life. But I know I will be VERY choosey and particular in what I will accept and expect. I will also be a very different woman this time around. I'm actually starting to look forward to it.
For now, while I really want to date and connect with other guys.....i'm not sure I'm ready. I don't want to deal with the whole rebound thing. I don't want one night stands or empty sexual relationships. I want substance.....that's what was missing the first time around. I wont make that mistake twice.
You took the words right out of my mouth :) I have decided to wait before dating because I have recently backslided and need more healing time. I also do NOT want a rebound relationship.
I'm still taking a class about becoming an authentic person and realizing what makes us who we are - from our childhood and after. That is helping me figure out so much. Good luck with your plans for the future.
love and hugs
