My youngest son is 20 and probably the most decent human being I know. He's had a lot going on lately. He just started a fantastic job 3 months ago that he loves. He had to spend a week and a half in the Bahamas taking care of a boat and he is flying back over there tomorrow to bring the boat back. He went with his dad yesterday and bought a truck. When he came home he had a terrible migraine and was huddled over the waste basket next to his bed throwing up. This used to happen to him when he was 10. He would get abdominal migraines brought on by stress. While I was trying to comfort him, he broke down in racking sobs. I've never seen him cry like that. My poor darling baby has been trying to be so strong for me that he wasn't letting himself feel his own pain and anguish. I called their dad and he immediately called both boys and had a heart to heart. The boys had yet to acknowledge to their dad how hard this is on them.

I will always love my husband on some level and I do have a lot of respect for him. Together we have shitty things, apart we are better people. We've said from the beginning that our boys will be our moral compass and they are. Yes, him leaving has been very sad and hard for me, but I know it's for the best. He is coming over this week for a cook out - not because I miss him or I'm lonely, because we are a family and always will be. I know eventually we'll find other partners, but we'll always be there for the milstones in our kids' lives. I don't have any room for a bitter pill in my stomach.

My other eye opener was reading an update from a friend on the progress of their son who suffered a traumatic brain injury almost two years ago at the age of 18. He just said "hi" and "I love you" to his dad. The parents wrote about how wonderful it was to hear their son's first words for the second time.

Yes, divorce is sad and painful, but things could be so much worse for me.
