I think that we face a little different issues than those who were dating for a few years or even married for shorter period of time. Being married for so long we have older children some have grandkids dealing with teenagers and their reaction to the divorice empty nesters dating after 40...
Just by your asking for input kind of tells me that you're not too comfortable with it. I can understand that, but that doesn't mean that you shouldn't. I have to say though, that I was very close to my father and if he had dated someone my age I'd be giving him the ewweeee!? Consider how your daughter might look at it - I know you're close. She might just say "wonderful". Then again, she may look at you in a different light, too. You don't want that.
You're a good man and a good father. You certainly can make your own decisions on what makes you happy. I'm with you what ever you decide. I just say follow your gut (oh! poor you - you're having trouble with that area - I'm so sorry for you) or - you know what I mean. Hugs.
I agree that age is just a number.
Just be your sweet self and relax.
