Two doctors so far have commented that I am young to of gotten diverticulitis and I was just wondering when all of you had developed your first case of diverticulitis? I am 35 by the way.

it dosent matter how old you are its when they found out you have it , iwas diagmosed at 59 . but dont know how long they have been there , you can have it for a while without any pain or upset !!!!!!

I'm 46 and just recently had that. I've heard that as well. But like Sammuel said, it can be around for a long time and one can never know. But I did hear about it happening when people get older. 35 sounds young.

I was 55 with no previous indication anything was wrong. Although I did have a few problems similar to IBS on occasion.

It was previously thought of as an 'old persons' illness but I had my first attack at 36, my sister at 33 and my fathers ruptured at 38.

I was 25, had just had my second baby 10 weeks prior and was diagnost as a result of emergency surgery. There was no prior problems or illness, just got a horrible stomach pain that wouldn't go away.

I'm 28 had it in Feb had to have 6inches of colon removed and still get the odd twinges mine was on the right side which Dr said it very odd usually happens on the right side..but i told him i never claimed to be normal lol

I have recently gotten some pains and twinges on my right side. I know another poster said they got pains on that side too, which is unusual, but has anyone else experienced the pains on both left and right sides?

I had first attack in May 2009 and it was my left side (descending colon). Then in July 2009, I got nauseous and just felt really, really bad really quickly. I hurt from below my breasts down to below my navel and a little to the right. Went to the ER and my white count was really really high and they did a CT scan. I was told it was my appendix and they would have to remove it. I kept telling them it wasn't my appendix - I just knew. When the doctor got it there, he found that one of the diverticuli had abscessed and spilled into my abdominal cavity. He had to clean all that out, along with adhesions that were present. He gave me a photo he had taken during surgery and said my appendix was pink and really the healthiest thing in there at the time. But I know what you mean, every little twinge scars the crap out of you. Hope you are feeling better now. Donna

44 but looking back think it was why I had gallbladder surgery 10 years ago.. This sucks for everyone especially since there is no cure.. Take care and God bless..
