Three years after the first here I am again. Way worse this time. I had no fever last time and my white cell count was only slightly elevated. This time the pain was so intense they kept me in the hospital last night and gave me morphine.
Not to be gross here but I am pretty much a raging diarrhea machine this time,my stomach hurts and and I am very pukey. I remember last time I did have diarrhea from the meds but not like this. I 've also had very little sleep in the past two days so this has affected my mental health pretty badly. I am feeling like I am just at the end of my rope and this is it. I just don't think I am going to survive this this time around.
They finally let me out of the hospital this morning but I am still freaking miserable. I have a fever,pain and the runs. I am also a crying and depressed mess.
Anyone else out there have this experience? I think I just need to here I am not alone.

I am so sorry you are going through this. It sounds like it is a bad attack. You may need to be tested for C-Diff which can be from antibiotics or one person caught it in the hospital. The symptoms are diarrhea and lots of it that won't quit. Unfortunately the antibiotics alone can cause diarrhea also.
I think it is really important for you to try and relax and keep calm as it was stress that brought on my attacks so I know it does affect Diverticulitis.
Any food with fiber in it will make your pain worse so please go to a low fiber diet such as the Mayo Clinic Diet for Diverticulitis, and also eat tiny meals for awhile as that can also cause pain. I wish you the very best of luck and hope you are feeling better real soon.
I had a mad bout of pain today myself. I already had surgery and have a c-bag, and today it felt like the 'itis was back. All of a sudden -- pain shot to 8/10 and I was in the fetal postion. Thought I was going to need to go to the ER but I took a pain pill and it stopped after about 45 minutes. Luckily I made a huge batch of broth yesterday. I told myself this morning that I might need to go on liquids, but I didn't listen! I was gobbling down dried mangos right before the "attack". Sigh.
You will make it!! We both will!! Hang in there.
I started having sharp pains this afternoon that lasted into the evening and I posted for help on my diverticulitis facebook group and they encouraged me to go to the ER. I actually found your group tonight after googling "diverticulitis when to go to the emergency room". I was I was considering not coming in because the pain was subsiding but the facebook group talked me into it. I worried the ER people would think I was a hypochondriac, especially when they asked my current pain level and it was low and I wasn't running a fever. An hour later they said my labs were all normal and I was kicking myself for coming in. Then they came back and said the CT scan showed diverticulitis and they were admitting me for IV antibiotics. It's going to be hard to tell when it's serious enough to go to the ER from now on.
And I've been having diarrhea from hell too. Haven't had a solid stilll since sometime in July before the 1st hospital admission.
My GI doc did a test for C-diff last Friday and it was negative.
I hope you feel better soon. I hope we all do.
I have read previous posts and then this one in which you suggest going to a gastro doctor and requesting out-patient I've antibiotics.
Can you please tell me the names of the antibiotics that your are given?
I have been having a hell of a time with attacks of diverticulitis these past four months. They have been just about continuous. As soon as I am off of Augmentin, I get another infection. My doctors have wanted to give me Flagly/Levaquin but after reading many posts linking Flagyl to tendon/muscle problems I have declined it
My colon resection surgery is scheduled for the end of this month and I am afraid that it will not be possible. I am currently having a painful attack but am home and again on Augmentin. I sm fortunate that I do not have any side effects from it and I am on probiotics, Florastor.
Any advice or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. After reading many of your posts I have great respect for you
