possible surgery

I went to my gastro today because of having continual diarrhea since having my attack and being that I am 4 days off of the meds. She now has me scheduled for a surgery consultation. She said if I have had 3 attacks in a 14 month period than I need to think about surgery. Now I'm beginning to think well...two of my four attacks haven't been very bad so maybe I really don't need surgery. I have had a total of 4 attacks. Two of which were pretty bad. My father died many years ago from having to have emergency surgery. I am assuming things go much more smoothly now. I just can't help but panic. What if the two mild attacks weren't real episodes and I really don't need surgery? Oh thank goodness for this board. Even if I have the surgery there are many of you that have had it and have come through just fine.

Yupp...Feeling GREAT. Now.
I was Just Real Scared of the Surgery..I was Flat TERRIFIED of the Attacks, and the Meds.

The Decision for Surgery is Not an Easy one to Come to for Most, for me it was...I just wanted to "Get On with IT Already" !!

Within 2-3 Weeks I Became Well aware of just How SICK I Had been...Sometimes we Don't know Just how SICK we WERE, Til we Start to Feel Better. I Bet I have Done MORE in the Last 5 Months then I have in the Last 5 YEARS...Not even gonna BS ya.That tells me this had been Brewing since LONG before I knew it...Zapping me of Precious Life Time.

I Understand I had an Unusually GOOD Post Op Experience...Shocking Both Me & My Surgeon...but I Bounced back Real Fast...Kinda Like being SPRUNG Loose. I Also have FM, so we were Expecting me to have a Much Longer Recovery...but I didn't even have a Mini Flare...Nice !!

IF ya DO have to Do this...We Will All Bee right here with ya Girl. Surgery should ALWAYS Be ur Last Option..but Best option Compared to The "OTHER" Option Huh ?

I was the queen of scared about the surgery - ask anyone here & they'll tell you ! Put it off, fought it, didn't want to do it. FINALLY gave in when I thought I was either going to have it or die - best decision I ever made. I'm 3 mos. post-op, eating "almost normally", feeling pretty good most of the time. Doc told me it would probably take me 6 mos. to get all of my strength & stamina back cuz I had been so sick for so long - but it's 85% back now, just have to try & remember not to over do things. The surgery really wasn't that bad & the good news is you begin to stop thinking about it, worrying about it, you really do get your life back. No antibiotics, no pain, no fear of emergency situations. I am not young, had 2 lap sites & 1 long belly incision & was out of the hospital in 3 days (much to my doc's amazement). First few days at home were rest, walk, eat & poop. Then things get better & better. Find a great colo-rectal surgeon, get the right attitude and you'll be fine ! Don't wait until it's an emergency if you don't have to..........................it's really not worth it. Best of luck.
