Hi, I'm just looking for a little advice ~ this is my mums story....
A few weeks ago, she had severe, lower-left stomach pain...I told her to call dr out as it sounded serious, as she never makes a fuss, (she is 75 and a full time carer to my dad 79!)
The 1st dr to come out diagnosed wind, and prescribed laxatives and suppositories....obviously resulting in very loose motions but pain still there.
Contacted another dr next day to ask what happens now as pain continuing...Dr said, It may be diverticulitis & to take paracetamol.
Took for 2 days, pain was slightly masked so mum struggled on.
The next day she was in abs agony, couldn't move, couldn't turn over in bed...I came to help and called dr out straight away...
He arrived and said he thought it was prob diverticulitis and to take x2 lots of anti b's.
That afternoon, and after 1st dose of anti bs she started to be sick, and was being sick all night, couldn't keep even water down.
Next day I called dr out again who asked for immediate hosp admission... We had no idea how poorly she was, she was given intravenous pain relief & anti biotics, a tube down her throat draining all the muck from her tummy etc...
Anyway, after a week of this, she was allowed to start a light diet and finally discharged.
Obviously rather tired and weak, but after about a week started to improve.. The only problem now, she is going to the loo (diarrhea) about 20 times a day, is this normal after a perforated bowel....or is it part of diverticulitis? She's feeling very run down because of it and we don't seem to be getting anywhere... Any advice from others who have been through this would be gratefully accepted... Thanks for reading

I will tell you that after my perforation (I was able to luckily wait a few months for surgery) nothing worked right. But after surgery, all got SO MUCH better.
She started drinking ?actimel (good bacteria) drinks today and visits to the loo have lessened - fingers crossed tonight will be more restful for her too.
She is seeing the consultant in about 3 weeks time for a follow-up colposcopy ( I think that's what it's called- anyway it's the camera!) so I guess she will know more then... Just wasn't sure shaft to expect really, and the hospital don't really send you away with any info...
