hi all I recently just got out of the hospital I had a extreme diverticulitis incident. It was the first time this happened to me and it was very hard I devolped a abscess and I had to have a drain put in which is still in. I also spent 11 days in the hospital too. So I am looking for advice what to eat and how to live with the problem so I can get healthy for my family.

Hey Scarlet, I'm so sorry to hear about your experience. I'm brand new to this roller coaster too, so I don't really have any advise. I'm recovering from my first severe attack 7 days ago. I thought it was food poisoning. My Dr. said, "Nope, diverticulitis." so I wound up here.
Just wanted to say, hey~
Be strong. Be patient with your body. Seems like there is a lot of collective wisdom here. Read, read, read and heal!

Hi Scarlet and Ilovepaper, I am also new hear and was diagnosed last week with diverticulitis after a sever flare. I’ve been suffering with stomach problems for a couple of years and never new I was actually having flare ups. I’m looking for people who have been through this and can talk understand what we go through. I hope you are both feeling better.

After another flare up, my stomach is still bloated--really huge. Will I ever have a flat stomach again? I look pregnant......

Hey. I'm new to this too. It's hard to know what to expect and you read how common this disease is and maybe think it's not serious. It's very confusing. I know it really fatigues you and can cause a lot of anxiety. I'm still waiting my colonoscopy. Second flare in 8 weeks.

Unfortunately the more of these you have the more in tune you will get with the triggers of the condition and how to be proactive. For me diet and stress management are everything. The myth that seeds, corn, etc. do no affect it. Don't believe it. I believe it is a cumulative thing. Eating bad may not directly creating a flare-up but it will shorten the length of time before your next one. Again, my theory and approach based on no scientific evidence. My problem is that I have a short memory and get lazy. Bam!

Sorry, I also have to chuckle. I lose 8 pounds and yet look like I am 7 months pregnant from the inflammation. I wish I had an answer for you on that one.
