The Mayo Clinic Diverticulitis Diet, lets you drink coffee or caffeine during an attack of Diverticulitis, so I don't get it either!!!!

just a first attack and it cleared up? first of all everyone is different with this disease..if you are a person with a bad history of recurring attacks or attacks that don't heal easily..if you are someone who has been told it might be good to get surgery but you opted instead to adopt a very strict diet..then maybe this advice would be more binding..I would stay away from alcohol while you are sick but people do drink coffee..as far as after it has run its course? I think coffee in your case would be ok and probably even alcohol in moderation (wine might be better than beer which can sometimes irritate you) I will say this first of all there is decaf coffee...there is also half caf...then be aware that the lighter bean roasts actually have more caffeine because they are roasted less time which makes them expand less than dark roast beans..so every table spoon of lighter beans is comprised of a greater amount of beans than in a dark roast where the extended roasting has expanded each bean..greater amount of beans higher caffeine level..so maybe you find something you like with a little lower caffeine..if you want to just get your hot drink fix you could actually aid your stomache wellbeing with ginger tea or peppermint tea..Usually if something you eat or drink causes a flare up of symptoms that is a warning sign..I am not a doctor so these are just opinions and a little research
