Hi Belinda the surgery will be done laparoscopic so on the outside you will only see three or so incision with one or two stitches,your tummy will be inflated and it is uncomfortable until all air is out,maybe three days, but the procedure that is done on the inside takes a while to heal.so it might look like nothing but boy do they play around inside with moving organs out of the way to fix the problem! You may need some paracetamol or something for the trip,the seatbelt may add pressure to your tummy,sitting may be ok but I'm not sure for how long.please take it easy as it is no " small job" it still requires the recuperation time after a procedure . It sounds like you had a lot in the past to have to go through all this now.Best of luck,don't lift anything!

Well she (the surgeon) moved m surgery up by a day so it will be tomorrow. Sooner is better than later. She did say it would not be laparscopic though...a 4" incision vertically because of my prior mesh. By this time tomorrow the surgery will be done (yeh) and I can be on another road to recovery!

Dear Belinda well that changes a few things,it might just take a few more days to recover as she will cut through muscle ,this may be easier as it is in the tummy line and easy to access,never less you would have adhesions in there from previous surgery I hope all goes well have a safe trip and I hope you can enjoy the journey ! Thanks for your well wishes, Maggie! I am glad the surgery is over, but it has been much more painful than I had expected. I thought this was just a "little" surgery!

I did go home the same night as the surgery, but did not know if I was on foot or horseback! Too many drugs! Yesterday was questionable, and today is much more comfortable. I think she hooked the mesh to my hips, as I seem to be able to feel pulls from each side :(

That is great to hear congratulations on getting through it!! Now you can get better and focus on your trip! The mesh should stop adhesion forming from the surgery,these are like scar tissue build up,inside and can loop up the bowel ,my daughter had it put in after abdominal surgery and had no further problems.it also prevents weakness of the area causing more hernias.you will still need to not put up washing or lift anything for at least 4 weeks,recovery of abdominal surgery takes at least 6 weeks till everything strengthens again go easy on the seat belt,maybe place a small pillow in front of seatbelt .
