Last Tuesday March 8/11...I got really bad pains mostly around the naval. Went to hospital, had xray, ctscan...long story short...one of my diverticla had ruptured, but luckily no stool was present when it ruptured. Was in for a week in tremendous pain and discomfort. Am now home on 500mg of Cipro 2x day....500mg flagyl 2x day.
Dr. said I am very high risk for surgery due to fact I have been on prednisone for 17 years. I am so scared and confused. Can this rupture happen anytime soon again??? I am on a low fibre diet right now. I could sure use some positive and encouraging words. Thank you...take care all.

Yes the prednisone diminishes the healing process to a great degree and that is the risk factor. Can this be treated strictly with diet and avoid surgery?? I have no ovaries, so that is not an issue. You mentioned ppl with diverticulosis usually only have one attack. But mine being diverticulitis...does that mean more?? I CANNOT...CANNOT livc fearing every little twinge and gas pain, thinking that this is IT..the perhaps life threatening thing I may have to face. One week has changed my whole demenour...I really can't handle this. However I am now and am going to follow the diets and eat the foods to the letter. No exceptions, no cheating. I am 67 years old and I am in otherwise good health. My hubby and I even foster newborn babies. The baby we have now is soon to undergo openheart bypass surgery and I am a mess.

I am so sorry that you are going through this. I also, am healthy except for this. I never had anything wrong with me and boy does this do a number on you. Try to relax. It is so hard, put the panicking about every twinge will drive you nuts. You have so much on your plate with your foster babies. Stress will make any situation worse. If in the end if you need surgery you will just have to go with it. From every thing I've heard here, you'll be so much better. But for now, take one day at a time.

That is hard to know you have had the ruptured diverticuli, glad it didnt get worse.
Being on prednisolone does always make surgery more risky due to the effect of it & from memory you can bleed easier with surgery.

Try not to stress & focus on the "what ifs". Drink plenty of water, eat wisely in relation to probiotics, nuts & the lowfibre diet etc. There has been a lot of discussions on here about the diets & what you should/not eat.

If you are in pain again then get it looked at as soon as you can too jut to be safe.
