I finally had my laproscopic colon resection on August 23rd. I went home 4 days later - Friday.
I seem to be doing very well so far. Feeling lucky at this point. I am not on pain medication. I have minimal pain.
This support group and its members were very helpful to and supportive of me since April when I shared with this group that my doctor recommended that it was probably time for me to have a resection and put an end to the ongoing series of diverticulitis attacks I've had --- 6 or 7 in 6 years. Thank you very much!
I was quiet in this group in advance of scheduled surgery. It was easier for me not to announce it and talk about (and worry about it any more than I already was). I kept as busy as I could and kept my mind off my surgery as much as possible --- this tact worked pretty well for me --- I was surprised that I stayed as calm as I did right up to my surgery.
I am drinking fluids ok. Eating small meals ok --- small portions --- low-fat --- lots of white rice and lean meals.
Had my first BM 2 days after the surgery. Only thing I was not expecting (forewarned of) was so many very loose BM's.
Surgeon estimated I would be out of work for 3 weeks all together.

I"m so happy to hear from someone who had such a great experience! I know you're glad it's over!!! Also, thanks for the info on what to expect. Docs don't usually explain it all, so it's good to know how things go after the surgery.

Thank you for the sentiments. I plan to try to share more (and probably ask for more too) in the coming weeks and months.
About the "pre-surgery jitters":
I am big worrier by my nature. I was in disbelief that I needed to go forward and have this surgery. Once I realized that I would be foolish to avoid or put off the surgery, I then tried to channel my energies to surrendering (putting trust into) to my surgeon, the hospital staff, and God/a higher power. Surrendering to them rather than fighting the reality through fear made much more sense to me.
So I concentrated on surrendering my trust. And I also became quiet here in this group as I got closer to my surgery as I said at the beginning of this post. The help and support in the group have been WONDERFUL, but being busy and keeping my mind off my surgery as much as I could really worked for me. I sensed that it would be a good tact for me and it was. I realize many other people would prefer or benefit more from talking to others everyday in the weeks leading up to their surgery.

I feel very lucky at this point.
I decided I needed to have this surgery because I was also tired of being a "ticking time bomb". To continue having 1 acute attack every year going forward did not make much sense to me compared to a 1 time laproscopic surgery.
I am very glad the surgery is over. I am relatively early in my recovery from it. Everything seems to be going well at this point, I just hope it continues this way.

I had my colon resection because of recurrent Diverticulitis attacks. I do not have cancer.
I am saddened by your husband's cancer, and all you and he have gone through the last 4 years. I will be thinking of and praying for you both.

Thank you very much for the congratulations. It has been a very stressful 10 months for me --- since my GI shocked me by urging me to consider the surgery.
My surgery was 2 weeks ago today. My recovery seems to be going very. I cannot help but to feel Lucky and very Blessed at this point --- I am so aware that not everyone's surgery and recovery goes this smoothly. I feel very thankful.
I don't plan to be a stranger here with this group. I would like to help others when I can including helping others with questions about about my laproscopic colon resection surgery and recovery.
